Casa Serena opened its doors to alcoholic women in August of 1959. Recovering from alcoholism herself, Mildred wanted to open the home “because there was no place in Santa Barbara for a woman alcoholic to go for help.” The house became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in 1973. In over 60 years of service to our community, Casa Serena has helped thousands of women recover from their addictions to alcohol and drugs, while managing their dual diagnosis mental health disorders. Today, we are Santa Barbara’s only licensed and Joint Commission accredited nonprofit, evidence-based, residential treatment and rehab program for women.
