Info

The Chaim Gross Studio Museum, also known as the Renee and Chaim Gross Foundation and the Renee and Chaim Gross Center for the Arts, is a museum dedicated to Chaim Gross' work, located in the sculptor's former home on LaGuardia Place in Manhattan's Greenwich Village neighborhood. In addition to the artist's sculpture and drawings, it also contains more than five hundred pieces of art that the artist and his family collected.
The townhouse was built in the 1830s and was converted to an industrial loft in the 1880s. The Gross family converted it back into a residential space in 1963. The bottom two floors of the townhouse make up the museum with the third floor remaining as it was when Chaim Gross and his wife, Renee, lived in the house. The first floor is a permanent installation of the Gross' sculpture from the 1920s through the 1980s, and the second floor includes changing exhibits as well as the museum's library and archives.
