A Brief History of Nando’s

Nando’s Chicken got its start in 1987. The first restaurant was located in Rosettenville in Johannesburg, South Africa. Even though we have come a long way, we still remember our humble beginnings.



Nando’s story really began several centuries ago, when Portuguese explorers first set sail for the East. Upon landing on African shores, they were in introduced to the African Bird’s Eye Chilli, otherwise known as PERi-PERi. A spice like no other, the locals used it to create a unique sauce that fired their bellies and ignited passion in their souls.
