Info

Kiakkai or Kiak Kai (Thai: เกียกกาย, pronounced [kìa̯k.kāːj]) is an intersection and neighbourhood in Bangkok's Thanon Nakhon Chai Si sub-district, Dusit district. It's four corners of Samsen, Pracharat Sai 1, Thahan roads, and the end of Samsen road. It's the next intersection from Bang Krabue on the side of Samsen.
The term Kiakkai is an old Thai word meaning "Provisions Department" (comparable to the current Quartermaster Department).
Around this neighborhood is well known as the location of many military bases under the Royal Thai Army (RTA) such as 1st Cavalry Regiment, King's Guard (กรมทหารม้าที่ 1 รักษาพระองค์), 1st Field Artillery Battalion, King's Guard (กรมทหารปืนใหญ่ที่ 1 รักษาพระองค์), 4th Cavalry Division King's Guard (กองพันทหารม้าที่ 4 รักษาพระองค์), or Military Armoured Car Radio Station (สถานีวิทยุยานเกราะ) etc. Many times they're involved in a coup in Thai history such as Siamese revolution of 1932, October 6 incident, 1981 April rebellion, or September 9th rebellion etc. In addition, it's also home to the Sappaya-Sapasathan, a new Parliament House of Thailand. It was built on the same site as Yothinburana School. Including, there's a project to build an overpass cross the Chao Phraya river, 5.9 km (about 3 mi) long, from here to Charan Sanitwong road in Thonburi side's Bang Phlat district.
