Finntown is a small area located in the neighborhood of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It was named after the surge of Finnish immigrants arriving during the first decades of the 20th century.In 1916, Finntown became the site of the first non-profit housing cooperative in the United States. The Finnish Home Building Association built two cooperative houses, named Alku and Alku Toinen, at 816 and 826 43rd Street.
