Info

The Archbishop House (Bengali: আর্চ বিশপ হাউস), also known as the Kakrail Church, is an architecturally significant church building located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was first built 1925 AD, with a chapel area on right. It had evolved 1947 in Lakkibazar (Puran Dhaka) and in 1957 it transferred to Kakrail. The present church was renovated in 1976. There are Gothic and Renaissance motifs inside and outside the structure and it is considered to be a fine example of post colonial fusion architecture.
At the beginning, only the archbishop lived here and church building did not take place. After independence, the government decided to build a church in there. The church buildings were specifically built as church assemblies, such as the imposing and richly provided cathedral building opposite the bishop's house. In the bishop's house rooms were made into one, by removing a wall, and a dais was set up. To the right of the entrance a small room was made into a baptistery.
