The Halifax School for the Blind (Halifax Asylum for the Blind) was opened on Morris Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1871, the first residential school for the blind in Canada. The founder of the school was Sir Frederick Fraser, who was visually impaired. (The Halifax School for the Deaf was established in 1856.)
