The Province of Rome (Italian: Provincia di Roma) was one of the five provinces of Lazio, Italy. The province of Rome was the most populous of Italy, and is essentially coterminous with the Rome metropolitan area. Rome was the provincial capital. The Province of Rome existed from 1870 to 31 December 2014. On 1 January 2015, it was replaced with a new administrative area, the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital.
