Info

Northwest Hills, Austin, Texas is a neighborhood in west Austin, Texas, United States.
Northwest Hills is located west of Mopac, and the Allandale and North Shoal Creek neighborhoods. The neighborhood is bounded to the south by RM 2222, Mesa Drive to the west and Spicewood Springs Road to the north. Northwest Hills is known as an affluent, close-in suburb with tall trees and exemplary schools.
In the late 1950s, David Barrow Sr. and his brother Edward envisioned developing the 2000 acres of Northwest Hills by acquiring the land from Texas Crushed Stone, which had run a limestone quarry between what is now Doss Elementary and Murchison Middle School. The Barrow Preserve and Edward's Mountain are just two of their namesake sites. The Northwest Hills branch of the Austin Public Library is aptly named Old Quarry. The majority of the homes were built in the late 1960s through the late 1970s, but a sizable area near Mopac is higher density and home to apartments and a couple thousand college students. The Dell Jewish Community Campus is also located in the neighborhood.
