The Belmond Hotel Cipriani is a hotel in Venice, northern Italy, one of the most expensive hotels in the world with rates starting at USD $1,400 per night. On May 26, 1958 Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry’s Bar in Venice and inventor of the Bellini cocktail, opened the Hotel Cipriani on the island of Giudecca.
In 1976, Orient-Express Hotels was founded with the purchase of Hotel Cipriani. Begun as the leisure division of Sea Containers Ltd, it was later incorporated as Orient-Express Hotels Ltd., a Bermuda company.
In 2014, the Hotel Cipriani was renamed the Belmond Hotel Cipriani as part of the new rebranding of Orient-Express Hotels as Belmond Ltd.. Hollywood actor George Clooney hired the hotel in September 2014 on the weekend of his wedding with British lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
