The Sydney Gateway is a planned major multi-modal transport infrastructure project comprising a motorway interchange, freight and passenger rail junctions and direct links to the Sydney Airport. Upon completion the Gateway will connect the Sydney Motorway Network with the Sydney Airport and Port Botany precincts via a new interchange at St Peters. It is expected to be located in the St George area of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, at the junction of the New M5 (WestConnex), the M5 East, the WestConnex St Peters; the Southern Sydney Freight and Airport Link rail lines; and link directly to the international and domestic terminals.The completed project is expected to provide improved road, rail and other transport links between the airport and Port Botany and reduce congestion. The project is anticipated to be opened in 2023.As of November 2017, the project is in the design and planning phase that includes developing connections to the St Peters interchange, to Sydney Airport Terminals 1, 2 and 3, grade separation of Robey Street and O’Riordan Street in Mascot, the duplication of a 3-kilometre (1.9 mi) section of the Port Botany Rail Line, within a complex stakeholder environment, with significant utility assets impacted and a heavily congested area.
