Elgin Community College (ECC) is a two-year, post-secondary educational institution located in Elgin, Illinois. Community College District 509, the college’s 360-square-mile district, is home to approximately 450,000 residents, over 10,000 businesses, four K-12 school districts, and 33 communities located in Kane County and portions of Cook, DuPage and McHenry counties.
Along with its Spartan Drive Campus in Elgin, ECC offers courses and services at the following locations: The Elgin Community College Center for Emergency Services in Burlington, the Education and Work Center in Hanover Park, Streamwood Village Hall, and several public schools and libraries.
Founded in 1949 in Elgin, Illinois, the college was originally a part of Public School District U-46 until applying to the state Board of Higher Education for independent junior college status in 1966. Its school mascot is a Spartan. The college’s current president is David Sam, PhD, JD, LLM.
